What Is an Onlay?
Onlays can be an ideal solution for conservatively repairing teeth that have large defective fillings, decay, or damage caused by an injury. Tooth onlays are fitting alternatives to crowns (caps), as less tooth structure is removed when preparing for the procedure. Onlays are essentially identical to inlays with the exception that one or more of the chewing cusps have also been affected and need to be included in the restoration.

At your second appointment, your new onlay will be carefully and precisely cemented into place. A few adjustments may be necessary to ensure a proper fit and a comfortable bite. At the end of your appointment, you will receive detailed care instructions. With good oral hygiene, a proper diet, and regular dental exams and cleanings, your onlay can last for years.
